What does one wear on a first date?

What does one wear on a first date?
You want to look nice, but you don’t want to look overtly sexy because is it deemed inappropriate?
What if it’s just casual drinks? Should you dress down the colours?
I have this thing where I feel like bright colours are offensive, especially in colder months when Melbournians dress in dark colours.
But my wardobe is 95% bright colours.
I’m afraid I’ll show up way overdressed, and I’ll make him feel awkward or something.
It’s happened before.
Oh gee.

I have this problem every time. I always look dressed up but that’s just how I am. I like skirts and shirts and stockings.

I have a coffee date tomorrow. I want to wear a burgundy dress I bought the other week, but I’m afraid I will look too dressed up. So I’m thinking my new boots and black skinny jeans, because even though I never wear jeans they might look a little less like I tried, and also I think it’s important for a person I’m considering dating to know that I have an excellent butt.

Tops are more problematic. I would like to wear a pale pink shirt I bought last week but what if it looks too dressy? I will probably wear it anyway. And a cardigan, because I still haven’t solved my jacket problem.

I like colours, but it is Melbourne, so a black base is sadly mandatory. I hope you post the outfit before you go, jimpson!
