my-corneroftheuniverse asked: Hi, I like to search the baby panda tag because I'm kind of obsessed with them, and your photos came up and I was wondering where you went to be able to hug a baby panda?!

Hi! I went to the Panda Research Base in Chengdu, Sichuan, China. They don’t advertise it, so you have to ask when you get inside and pay a very significant “donation”. You can read more about it here. Hope you get there! It was one of the best things I’ve ever done. :)

So apparently I can not only hug a baby panda in Chengdu…

I can also spend a day volunteering to feed and clean up after the pandas. 600RMB, or approx $94.

“Your Keeper work may include:
Feeding the panda (fresh bamboo, apple, panda cake)
Cleaning the enclosure to give
Collecting and weighing the feces (this is the most effective way to determine the health of the panda).
Cleaning bamboo.
Cleaning the panda.
Weighing fresh bamboo.
Weigh the bamboo after the panda eats to know how much they have eaten, and so on.”

I have 2.5 days in Chengdu. And I can’t say I’ve ever cleaned a panda before.

Good idea?
